Mickie James let off some pent-up steam this week. In a Divas Tag Team Match pitting her & ECW’s Kelly Kelly against current Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix & SmackDown’s Victoria, Mickie unleashed her mounting frustrations by handling Victoria and pinning her for the three-count.
--------------SMACKDOWN RESULTS 1/02/08
-Eve’s debut-
2007 Diva Search Winner Eve made her debut on SmackDown, and the newest Diva’s first task was interviewing Batista about the upcoming Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out. The Animal told Eve and our fans that he would win the match and go on to WrestleMania XXIV to challenge for the title
-Broken bonds-
One week after causing injury to his “best friend,” Chuck Palumbo’s apology to Michelle McCool seemed sincere, until Palumbo began blaming Jamie Noble for his actions last week. Chuck’s words weren’t what McCool wanted to hear, and the SmackDown Diva decided to make a statement of her own, slapping the revved-up Superstar across the face in the middle of the wrong and rejecting his apology.
--------------New Media Layout-----------------
Fresh off her Best Body Contest win last week, Kelly Kelly put her in-ring skills to the test against Victoria. In Kelly Kelly’s case, the blonde didn’t have more fun Tuesday night, as former Women’s Champion Victoria laid her out with a Widow’s Peak, while Lena Yada and Layla watched at ringside. After the match, Lena and Layla – obviously still angry about losing last week’s Best Body Contest – rushed into the ring and left Kelly face-down on the mat.
-Mounting Frustration-
Mickie James paired with Ashley to confront the challenge of Jillian Hall & Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix in a tag team match. Mickie came oh-so-close to pinning the Glamazon only to fall short again.
-Wardrobe Malfunction-
During her match with Melina, Maria found herself with her pants around her knees compliments of her overly aggressive opponent. But just as Maria was beginning to strut her panty-clad stuff, her "boyfriend" Santino Marella jumped into the ring, wrapped his jacket around her waist and lambasted the audience for getting a free show.
Divided they fall
In a Six-Person Tag Team Match, Chuck Palumbo, Jamie Noble & Michelle McCool were set to face off against The Miz, John Morrison & Layla. But, before the match could really get going, McCool’s team got into trouble early. While bickering in the middle of the ring, Palumbo shoved Noble against the ropes, launching Michelle off the apron and down to the ground. With the match stopped for medical staff to check on Michelle’s condition, Chuck seemed to snap, delivering a vicious beating to Noble, his own teammate. After recovering, McCool tried to intervene, only to have Palumbo ruthlessly throw her to the ground again – this time requiring emergency medical technicians to take her out of the arena on a stretcher. Later, as Michelle was brought to a waiting ambulance, Noble apologized for how things went down.
Speaking of paradise … Kelly Kelly, Layla and Lena Yada competed in a Best Body Contest on Tuesday night, and the Divas looked even more perfect in HDTV. Our fans declared Kelly Kelly the winner through their cheers, but Layla and Lena weren’t pleased. Layla knocked Kelly Kelly face-first to the mat, with Lena by her side.
Broken Promise
Mickie James came out fired up this week, but ended up in a smoldering funk. She had vowed to pin Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix – a foe she’s never defeated – but she came up frustratingly short when The Glamazon’s size and strength advantage once again proved insurmountable
